Quaife
FOCUS RS/ST SEQUENTIAL GEARBOX
£TBC
New Stuff, The latest gear on the Blue Oval scene. Quaife have been manufacturing FWD sequential gearkits for Fords for some time now, catering for cars that run the IB5 gearbox (Ka, Mk4-6 Fiesta, Puma, Mk1-2 Focus, etc), and the exciting news this month is that they’ve developed a setup for cars which use the MMT6 ’box. We’re looking at you, Mk3 ST and RS owners! The new QBE46Z 5-speed sequential gearbox is built and ready for testing, featuring a heavy-duty billet casing suitable for the RS’s AWD system. The gearkit uses the existing bellhousing along with the OEM clutch, differential, driveshafts and mounts, so it won’t be a hassle to fit, and it features a strengthened outer casing, next-gen gearchange mechanism (allowing for FWD/ RWD/AWD), and five wider-than-standard gears with a choice of straight-cut or helical gears. It’s compatible with flat-shift systems too! Prices TBC, but this is very hot news for Mk3 ST/RS owners. www.quaife.co.uk
Turbosmart
KOMPACT EM BOV
From £207.78
The new Turbosmart Kompact EM BOV is designed to replace the OE electronic diverter valve on modern turbocharged engines – developed specifically with Ford’s EcoBoost range of engines in mind. The combination of billet construction and high-temperature proprietary material allows for increased boost control, increasing the life of turbochargers while providing maximum performance. The new Turbosmart EM BOVs are the world’s first truly plug and play blow-off valves, and they are a direct replacement for the OEM unit. This means a seamless integration into your car and makes the units very easy to install. For more details head to the website. www.turbosmart.com
SCORPION
MK8 FIESTA ST-LINE EXHAUST
£POA
It feels like the Mk8 Fiesta’s only been with us five minutes, but it’s hardly surprising that Scorpion were on the case with upgrading it right from the off. Their trademark attention to detail and quality construction is clearly in evidence in this new system for the Mk8 ST-Line, featuring T304 stainless steel construction with mandrel-bent pipework, high-flow turbo downpipe, acoustic engineering to eliminate drone, and the option of resonated or nonresonated systems. The latter in particular will really get that 1.0 EcoBoost singing. Prices vary depending on options, give them a call on 01773 744123. www.scorpion-exhausts.com
MOUNTUNE
MUSTANG RTR UPPER & LOWER GRILLE
£598.80 (upper) £239.99 (lower)
Modifying a Mustang’s aesthetics is always a fun exercise in making it look meaner, as they already look pretty mean in stock form. The RTR upper grille from mountune is one of our favourite additions to that familiar face, as it’s nice and open while also featuring those imposing LED lights. Developed in conjunction with pro-drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr, this item borrows the styling cues of his aggressive RTR drift missile. The halo rings (which use SMD tech to provide super-bright white light while using 10% of the power of standard bulbs) plug straight into the factory headlight harness, and work automatically with your DRLs, and the grille itself – engineered from Ford’s own CAD data for a perfect OEMquality fit – is sufficiently open to broadly increase airflow to the radiator. Form and function in one! A neat addition to cars equipped with the RTR upper grille, this lower grille completes the package to angry up the Mustang’s nose. Made from injection-moulded thermoplastic, its fit and finish is exemplary as, like the upper item, it’s designed using Ford’s own measurements so it’ll fit like it’s factory. While it’s not compatible with Mustangs that have Adaptive Cruise Control (because that’s where the sensor lives), all other models can enjoy a bit of Vaughn Gittin Jr magic with this beautifully finished bolt-on upgrade. www.mountunestore.com
QUAIFE
SIERRA/ ESCORT COSWORTH MT75 DOG ’BOX
£TBC
Dog ’boxes are usually found in race applications, as they offer fast and precise shifting but without the dayto- day refinement road cars require; there’s no synchro, so the idea is that the quicker you shift, the better! Great news from Quaife then, if you find yourself racing a Sierra or Escort RS Cosworth, as they now produce a dog ’box based around the Ford (Ferguson) MT75 gearbox. It features straight-cut close-ratio gears, a dogleg first gear, strengthened centre case, heavy-duty gear lever and housing, and either the Ford viscous centre diff or the option of a Quaife ATB LSD. Serious racers also note that this is homologated for Group A use. www.quaife.co.uk
Scc Performance
RADIUM FOCUS RS/ST CATCH CANS
From £269.04
Crankcase ventilation is one of the inherent compromises of the internal combustion engine that we just have to live with – you’re not allowed to vent the crankcase to the atmosphere, and the only place to release the pressure is back into the intake. Not ideal, but there’s something you can do about it – catch cans! These capture the oil vapour before it hits your intake, meaning purer air entering the combustion cycle. Radium’s setup for the Mk3 Focus RS/ST features a pair of catch cans (one crankcase side, one PCV side) which function independently of one another and can be bought/ fitted separately. They don’t vent to atmosphere so they’re road-legal, they mount using factory holes, and they lower your hydrocarbon emissions while also preventing potential engine damage and increasing performance. This product works best with the Radium PCV baffle plate [£116.94], a more effective aluminium plate to replace the factory plastic item. We’ve got a full fitting guide planned, so keep an eye on future issues to see how it all goes together. www.focusrsparts.co.uk
HAYNES
FOCUS OWNERS WORKSHOP MANUAL
£22.99
The good old Haynes manual is one of those workshop essentials that’s been a perennial constant for generations, ever since your grandad used to stir his tea with a spanner while thumbing the light green Mk2 Cortina manual. And new Focus owners will be pleased to know that Haynes have just released a guide for the 2014-18 Ford Focus - covering everything there is to know about the hatchback and estate models, looking specifically at the 1.0- and 1.6-litre petrol variants and 1.5- and 1.6-litre diesels, it’s written in typical style from hands-on experience gained from stripping down and rebuilding each vehicle in the Haynes Project Workshop. You also get access to ‘Manuals Online’, so you can view it on your smartphone while you’re elbows-deep in oily things, which is handy. www.haynes.com
